Jason, a curious dog. (Saturday, 26th of October 2013).
Jason is a 3 year old gorgeous little Chihuahua. He is a delight, getting on well with the other dogs and just a bit shy at the moment. He will be immunised, desexed, microchipped, wormed and given flea treatment, fully vet checked and in excellent health. His price will be $450.

Jason, Jason, Jai
Tuesday, 3rd of December 2013
We found a new family for Jason who chose a new name for him: Jai! Great name! In the first update we received, we saw how patient and understanding they are, letting Jai adjust to his new environment in his own time.
We have renamed 'Jason' Jai, as mentioned when we picked him up on Friday afternoon. Molly and him seem to be getting along well. He is still quite nervous of movement and noises, but is happy to sit with Molly either in the bed in the laundry or the box in the kitchen.
He enjoys exploring the back garden. Whenever he notices you looking at him he runs away! He seems to be wary of the tanbark and fake grass and stays on the concrete. However there have been more deposits made on the tanbark than Molly could make herself, so we are assuming he does go on there.
Jai (right) snuggling with his new mate Molly. (Tuesday, 3rd of December 2013).
He is still difficult to catch unless he is on the bed, but he seems to enjoy cuddles, and eventually falls asleep on our lap in front of the TV in the evening. He has worked out how to use the dog door in the laundry (just a piece of fly-wire mesh) and comes and goes from there as he pleases. We have not yet introduced him to the more solid cat flap in the wooden door.
We set up the kennel outside so he had somewhere to sleep if there was an issue sharing the laundry bed, but on Saturday night they shared the bed quite happily! He uses the kennel as a 'safe space', but comes out to check what we are up to from afar.
We took both the dogs for a walk on Sunday afternoon, carrying Jai with his lead and harness on. We put him down in some grass to see what he would do. He was quite unsure about what the strange green stuff was! We tried them again last night, and put him down on the pavement. He walked very slowly and carefully on the lead, but enjoyed himself.
We give him Hills Science Diet TD small bites food. The pieces are a little big for him so he has been carrying them around the back yard and goes back to eat them later on!
Jai (right) snoring and snuggling with his new mate Molly (left). (Tuesday, 3rd of December 2013).
The two attached photos are from tonight. It took him a while to cuddle up to Molly, mostly because he was wary of what she would do, but she just stayed still and let him cuddle up. He is now snoring in the box with Molly.
We will keep you updated on his progress.

Jai goes Lakeside
Sunday, 15th of December 2013
A few days later, Jai's family wrote to us again and revealed how Jai was adjusting wonderfully, and how their approach to letting this little dog explore his environment was showing the best results - a dog comfortable enough to snore after a day in the sun!
Jai showing how well he can walk on the lead while out at Lakeside. (Sunday, 15th of December 2013)
Jai had his first outing today! We took him to Lakeside for an adventure, and he greatly enjoyed himself. It was a good experience for him, as he faced other dogs, bikes, people running, timber boardwalks over the water and swans, ducks, etc - most of which were bigger than him! He even sat nicely with us outside a café for afternoon tea.
He is developing his confidence and has a cheeky little personality coming out more and more over the past few days. He walks quite nicely on the lead, however still likes to be behind everyone. Once he was ahead for a little bit but slowed down as soon as he realised where everyone else was.
He is still unreliable when called, but is getting better. He will not be allowed off the lead until he is coming every time he is called.
He enjoyed the outing, and is starting to realise that going in the crate/car doesn't mean that he is moving to a new place again. He is starting to realise what the harness and lead is, and now sits still while you put it on him. He fell asleep shortly after having his dinner and has been snoring for a few hours now after his big day out in the sunshine.

A kind donation and fantastic update
Saturday, 3rd of September 2016
Occasionally we receive some truly kind donations from different organisations. For the second year in a row, we received a wonderful donation from Jai's family who ran a worthy cause for kids. Here is the letter they sent us, which also provided a wonderful update on Jai.

Presentations Plus is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates presentation balls, or debutante balls, for groups of young ladies and gentlemen who are not given the opportunity through their schools.
In 2013 we adopted Jai (previously Jason) from you as a companion for our Jack Russel cross, Molly, hoping he would help her to move through the loss of her previous companion. Jai and Molly have become an inseparable couple, and Jai has developed the funniest cheeky personality. He has little routines which add so much joy to our days, such as bringing his teddy out of bed every morning, or moving my slippers around the house. He loves walk time and knows all the routines of the household, but his favourite time is in the evenings when he can't wait to snuggle up on my lap and watch some television.

Thank you for all the dedication and commitment you have towards the welfare of these little dogs, and thank you for all the laughter and cuddles that Jai has brought into our lives. I have attached some photos of Jai doing his favorite things.
The 2016 Presentation Ball has again been a successful fund raiser with a lot of interest in the work that you do created by sharing the thank you letter you sent me last year. I would again like to donate the proceeds of the 2016 Presentations Plus Presentation Ball to Chihuahua Rescue Victoria.
We were so deeply touched by the generosity shown by Jai's family that we wrote up a thank you note for the ball. It is an amazing cause.

We wish to express to you and all your wonderful Debutants and their Partners, our very grateful thanks for your wonderful donation towards the costs of saving and re-homing so many little dogs. Our work could not continue to help these wonderful little dogs without such great support from donations such as yours.
Thank you so much! And we wish everyone a most successful evening.
Very kind regards from
Rita and Mayer Bram

In memoriam for Molly
Sunday, 5th of August 2018
We received a very sad update today.
Jai is very sad at the moment, as this morning Molly had her final trip to the vet. He sat with her and comforted her as she passed. He has been a great comfort to her over the past almost 5 years. Molly accepted him into her life and bed from the very beginning and as she aged, he became her inseparable companion, always watching out for her.
We were wondering if you had any advice for us as to what we do with Molly's belongings (bed, toys, etc.) to help him move on – do we leave them out or should we pack them away. Also, should we look into getting another small companion for him, or see how he goes as a single dog?
Jai (at top) and Molly (at bottom). (Sunday, 5th of August 2018)
It is the worst news to hear about a doggy crossing the rainbow bridge. Molly and Jai were best mates: we remember you Molly.
Oh dear I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Our thoughts and sympathy are with you and the family.
Jai will be missing Molly terribly. It won't matter whether you wash her bedding or even if you pack it all away: he will still sense her for quite some time. Perhaps a younger playful type of a dog may help take him out of his sorrow.
It is such a hard call to make. Little dogs are like us: every one is different and so we can only follow trial and error to see how he adjusts.
Thoughts are with you all.
Love from Rita xxxxxx and Mayer xxxxxx
Jai has a new mate in Merlin
Sunday, 2nd of December 2018
We were heartened to receive an update from Jai's family showing he was still getting out there and finding new friends!
It's Jai (Jason). I hope you and all my friends at Chihuahua rescue are well.
It's been five years since I left you to try out my forever home. I'm having a fantastic time, and know that I will stay here forever. My favourite things are cuddles, dinner (but I don't like carrot), walks, playing games and getting in anyone's bed.
Jay (at bottom) and his new mate Merlin (top). (Saturday, 18th of August 2018)
This will be my first Christmas as an only dog, because my big sister Molly passed away earlier this year. I miss her, but am coping well. My humans are talking about possibly getting me a new friend in the new year. I also have a big standard poodle friend – his name is Merlin. He comes to visit sometimes, but he knows that I'm the boss and lets me steal his bed.
I'm still learning all kinds of new tricks which I use to get treats and cuddles. Some of my best tricks are high five (either paw), drop, beg, wait, sit, and 'touch'. I like the dog door because it makes my life so easy: I can go in or out as I want and all the toileting is kept outside.
My humans are taking Merlin and I to the beach for Christmas, and I'm hoping Merlin can show me that the water isn't as scary as I think it is!
Lots of love,
Jai.
It was so great to see Jai enjoying his family so much.

Dear gorgeous Jai and family,
Oh my goodness, how the years fly by!! How absolutely wonderful to hear from you - and to see how wonderful Jai is looking! You are doing a fantastic job taking such good care of him and yourselves. He is a little spoilt boy by the looks of the photos! Hahaha re the carrots! It is funny, we see both here: some doggies come through who would prefer a whole carrot to chew on instead of a bone, and then there is the odd one who will actually pick all the carrot out of the stew and spit it out on the floor!
Funny little dogs!
We wish you, Jai, and Family a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

On holiday at the beach
Sunday, 6th of January 2019
Earlier this year we received a wonderful update, showing Jai and his new mate still going gang-busters. This is what gives us so much pleasure to see.
Hi Grandma Rita,
It's Jai (Jason). I hope you and all my friends at Chihuahua Rescue are well. I have been on holiday at the beach for a week with my friend Merlin. At first I was a bit reluctant to go in the water, but I soon started to go for an adventure into the shallows on my own!
Jai and Merlin on the beach. (Tuesday, 1st of January 2019)
I met a lot of other dogs on my holiday, and greeted most of them nicely. At the end of each day, I decided to join Merlin on his bed for a big sleep even though mine was only a few steps away.
Jai (right) and Merlin (left) sharing a bed after a hard day of playing at the beach! (Tuesday, 1st of January 2019)
I got a new harness, lead and collar for Christmas. My humans decided to get a collar with my name and phone number embroidered on it because I have a habit of getting my feet caught in the tags and somehow bending them. I like my new collar, and get very excited every time the harness and lead come out because it means new adventures.
I have also started making some new friends at our little local dog park. Some of the bigger dogs can be a bit full on for me, but there is a little 3 legged terrier that I sometimes get to play with.
Happy New Year,
From Jai.
I love the photos Jai's family sent with this update!

Oh my goodness, you have just made my day! Both Jai and Merlin are looking absolutely fantastic. Beautiful photos, thank you so much, just love them!
Happy New Year to you and family, and to Jai and Merlin. I am thinking you might be getting talked into taking holidays on the beach more often!! Haha.
Lots love from Rita and Mayer

Jai and Merlin hanging out at the beach
Monday, 20th of January 2020
Hi Grandma Rita,
It's Jai here. I hope you and all my friends at Chihuahua Rescue are well. I've been back to the beach for a holiday with my best friend Merlin, and have discovered that big dogs can be very good pillows and shade providers.
Love from Jai.
